Brentwood Man Indicted for Allegedly Killing Another Man with His Car

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today  announced that Alex Reyes, 21, of Brentwood, was indicted for Murder in the Second Degree, for  allegedly killing 46-year-old Alexander Velasquez, also of Brentwood.

A Brentwood man has been indicted for murder after he allegedly hit and killed another rman with his car.

On June 22 at approximately 4:00 a.m., Alexander Velasquez was standing in a parking lot on Clarke Street near Miguelino’s Bar in Brentwood when he was  allegedly attacked by Alex Reyes and a group of unknown men. During the alleged attack, Reyes, along with another male, punched and kicked Velasquez, causing him to collapse helplessly in the parking lot.

Reyes then allegedly got behind the wheel of his 2021 white BMW and, while Velasquez was lying helpless on the ground, intentionally drove over and backed up over the victim’s body three times, killing him. Reyes then allegedly fled the area, leaving Velasquez’s lifeless body lying in the parking lot.

A Good Samaritan called 911 after discovering Velasquez’s body minutes later. He was pronounced deceased by the medical examiner at the scene.

On June 23, Suffolk Police Homicide detectives located Reyes on Wicks Road in Brentwood, driving the same car he allegedly used to run over and kill Velasquez and took him into custody.

On July 3, Reyes was arraigned on the indictment before Acting Supreme Court Justice  Karen M. Wilutus, for Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A felony. Wilutis ordered Reyes remanded without bail during the pendency of the case.

Reyes is due back in court on August  18 and faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted on the top count.

“The defendant allegedly transformed his vehicle into a deadly weapon to carry out a violent and alarmingly fatal act,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney. “This particularly dangerous escalation of  violence is one our office takes very seriously.”
