


An Amityville man was arrested in Hempstead during a traffic stop for allegedly possessing a gun and a knife.
On April 26 at 11:38 a.m., Nassau County officers from the First Precinct observed Darren Barnes riding a 2023 Harley-Davidson traveling eastbound on Weir Street near the intersection of Milburn Avenue with an allegedly obstructed license plate. Officers activated their emergency lights/sirens and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop.
During the investigation, police allegedly recovered a loaded silver/purple firearm with a red dot sight and a large metal dagger approximately 12 inches in length from the motorcycle’s saddle compartment. Barnes was arrested without incident.
Police charged Barnes, 38, of 72 Walnut Road, with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and multiple Vehicle Traffic Law infractions. He is scheduled to be arraigned on April 27 at First District Court in Hempstead.
