Amityville Man Arrested for Allegedly Selling Cocaine, Resisting Arrest

An Amityville man was arrested on multiple drug and assault charges after Nassau police say he sold cocaine and injured five officers during his arrest in Massapequa Park.

Joseph N. Jones, 35, of Great Neck Road, faces four counts each of third-degree criminal sale and possession of a controlled substance, along with charges of assaulting a police officer, three counts of second-degree assault and resisting arrest, Nassau County according to police.

Detectives from the Narcotics Vice Squad were conducting an investigation on April 21 around 9 p.m. in the parking lot of 6207 Sunrise Highway when they observed Jones allegedly selling a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine. As officers moved in to arrest him, Jones allegedly ran from the scene and resisted when officers caught up to him, injuring five officers in the process. One officer required surgery due to the severity of their injuries.

According to police, Jones was also involved in three prior incidents of alleged cocaine sales in Nassau County: on Feb. 23 on William Street in North Merrick, on March 12 at the same location, and on April 5 at 5204 Sunrise Highway in Massapequa Park.

Jones was arraigned on April 22 at First District Court in Hempstead.
