2 Arrested for Violating Social Host Law, Endangering Welfare of a Child

Two Girls  Reportedly Suffered from Alcohol Poisoning at Dix Hills Residence

Suffolk County police arrested a man and his wife for allegedly hosting a large party at their home in Dix Hills, where minors were allowed to drink alcohol.

Multiple 911 callers reported there was a large party located at 63 Seward Drive, and that there was a possible overdose victim, on October 31 at approximately 9:40 p.m. When police arrived at the scene, they found a large party with several hundred teenagers at the house and in the surrounding neighborhood. Police located two 16-year-old girls, who did not live at the residence, apparently suffering symptoms consistent with alcohol poisoning. Both were transported to Huntington Hospital by Dix Hills Fire Department for treatment.

An initial investigation at the scene found that a large party tent and portable toilets were set up for the event. An advertisement for the party was posted on social media indicating that more than 500 guests were expected and that admission was being charged.

The homeowners, Philip Bacarella, 51, and his wife Rita Baccarella, 51, were arrested for violation of  Suffolk County Local Law: Allowing Consumption of Alcohol by Minors at Private Residence Prohibited, commonly referred to as the social host law, as well as two counts of Endangering the  Welfare of a Child.

Both arrestees were issued Desk Appearance Tickets and are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on November 20.
