17-Year-Old Arrested for Attempting to Steal Electronic Device from North New Hyde Park Store

A 17-year-old has been arrested for trying to steal an electronic device from a North New Hyde Park store.

On November 5 at 3:50 p.m., a male juvenile entered Target, located at 1400 Union Turnpike. The juvenile then entered the electronics department, where he tampered and damaged a merchandise protection device before concealing the item. The defendant than passed all points of purchase without rendering payment and attempted to exit the store. A loss prevention officer confronted the juvenile and a struggle ensued. The defendant then dropped the merchandise and fled the scene on foot. A short time later, the defendant was located and placed under arrest without incident.

Subsequent to the investigation, a black knife was recovered on the juvenile. No injuries were reported.

The defendant is charged with third-degree robbery, fourth-degree criminal mischief and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was scheduled to be arraigned on November 6 at Nassau County First District Court-Youth Part in Hempstead.
