The Town of Brookhaven has partnered with Good Energy to launch a collaborative effort for a new five-megawatt rooftop solar farm project located at 235 Pinelawn Road in Melville. This was announced at an informal briefing and ribbon cutting on April 15.
The solar farm holds enough strength to power 1,200 homes in Brookhaven Town, launching the introduction of Brookhaven’s new Community Solar Project, which was created to offer residents substantial savings on their electric bills. There are more solar farms to come. Due to “solar credits,” Brookhaven homeowners who apply will benefit from a 10% discount on their monthly PSEG-LI bills.
Even though the solar farm is located in Melville, Brookhaven residents can benefit from the program due to the partnership with Good Energy. There are no installation requirements or upfront costs, and the flexibility gives residents the opportunity to cancel whenever they want.
“Good Energy is managing the project for the Town of Brookhaven; it will bring Brookhaven Town residents who subscribe a 10% discount on their monthly PSEG-LI electric bill,” said Drew Scott, a representative of the Town of Brookhaven, in an interview with Long Island Life & Politics. “It also allows people of low or moderate income to save on solar without having to own solar panels themselves on their homes.”
According to its website, Good Energy is the national leader in “structuring and implementing community and government-aggregation programs.” Good Energy has over 200 Community Energy Aggregation programs that represent over one million homes. The company specializes in electricity, natural gas, fuel oil, efficiency project, demand response and renewable-energy certificates.
Good Energy has established programs in the Village of Lynbrook.
“This Community Solar Project reflects our commitment to sustainability and financial relief for our residents,” said Town Supervisor Dan Panico. “It’s an exciting opportunity for Brookhaven homeowners to participate in clean energy initiatives while saving money.”
“We are excited to partner with Brookhaven on this Community Solar project,” said Good Energy Managing Partner Javier Barrios. “This initiative exemplifies our commitment to making renewable energy accessible and beneficial for all residents on Long Island.”
