Shop Owners Arrested for Allegedly Selling Vape Products to Minor

Suffolk County Police arrested two people for selling a flavored vape to an underage person during compliance checks at two separate businesses.  

In response to numerous community complaints, Suffolk County Police Fifth Precinct Crime Section officers conducted an investigation into the sale of vape products to an underage person on February 14, during which four businesses were checked for compliance with the law. 

During the investigation, two businesses were found to be selling flavored vape products to an underage person. 

The following people were charged with third-degree selling tobacco to someone less than 21 years old: 

  • Mehmet Kaya, 64, of Medford, employed at Shell Gas Station, located at 1365 Montauk  Highway, East Patchogue 
  • Hakeem Shali, 64, of Mastic, employed at High Times Vapes, located at 500 Medford Ave.,  Patchogue

Kaya and Shali were both issued Field Appearance Tickets and are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 6.
