


On June 27, LIMBA (Long Island Metro Business Action) will host a discussion titled “Shaping the Future of Clean Energy in New York.” Guest speakers will include Transco New York Vice President, Project Management & Construction Peter Rooney; the company’s communications and public affairs manager, Melanie Sinesi, and Jim Certa, who is the Long Island community and government relations director for the New York Power Authority.
NYPA and New York Transco are currently collaborating on Propel NY Energy, a 90-mile underground and submarine transmission project across parts of Long Island, New York City, and Westchester County that they said will bolster reliability, resiliency, and capacity of the state’s electric grid.
This event will take place at the Candlelight Diner, located at 56 Veterans Memorial Highway in Commack, starting at 8:30 a.m. The topic will be “Shaping The Future of Clean Energy in New York.”
Rooney joined New York Transco in 2024, bringing decades of experience in energy and infrastructure. Before this, he was vice president of project management and execution at Eversource Energy, where he led major wind generation projects in New York and Rhode Island. Mr. Rooney holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the City College of New York and is a Long Island resident.
Sinesi leads communications for the Propel NY Energy Project on Long Island. Prior to joining New York Transco, she served as chief of staff for Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and worked for U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in both her Long Island and New York City offices. Sinesi holds a Bachelor’s degree from Stony Brook University and serves on the Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s Board of Directors.
Certa has been with NYPA since 2017, managing community relations for projects like the Propel NY Energy initiative. Before joining NYPA, he worked at The Princeton Partnership and has extensive experience in public relations. Certa holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from American University and is an active community supporter.
