Barber Shop Closed for Illegal Gambling; 2 Arrested

Two people were arrested during a Quality-of-Life Initiative that was conducted at a Uniondale barber shop.

Nassau County detectives, Strategic Response Team Officers (SRT) and Town of Hempstead Building Department inspectors responded to Silver Shear Barber Shop located at 646 Waverly Place.  The investigation revealed the business was allegedly operating without a valid Town of Hempstead Public Assembly License.

During the investigation, officers discovered a hidden room accessible by a key fob. It was determined the room allegedly contained five electronic gambling machines which were seized and a total of $17,045 in cash was recovered.  Town inspectors locked and secured the location.

Employees Avianela Feliz De Los Santos, 30, of 295 E. 149th Street, Bronx, and Ronald Jn Lubin, 52, of 22 Francine Drive, N. Massapequa, were charged with Promoting Gambling in the Second Degree, Possession of Gambling Devices, Unlicensed Public Assembly and Unlicensed Bottle Club.  They were issued Appearance tickets and scheduled to report to First District Court on December 29.

Feliz De Los Santos is illegally in the United States and subject to removal proceedings. U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents took custody of the defendant.
