
A West Hempstead man for driving under the influence of alcohol with a child in the car after crashing another vehicle.
On June 12, Nassau County police officers responded to the vicinity of Jackson Avenue and Wilson Street in West Hempstead for an auto accident at 8:33 p.m. Upon arrival, it was determined that Angel Castro Castro, 31, of 307 Garfield Avenue, was operating a 1999 Nissan when he struck a parked vehicle. An investigation at the scene found Castro Castro to be intoxicated. He was placed under arrest without incident. There was a 4-year-old boy in his vehicle at the time of the accident. He was taken to a nearby hospital, along with his mother, for an evaluation. There was no child restraint system in the defendant’s vehicle.
Police charged Castro Castro under Leandra’s Law [Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child Less than 16)], Driving While Intoxicated, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and multiple traffic violations. He was scheduled to be arraigned on June 13 at First District Court in Hempstead.
