New York State police (NYSP) charged a West Babylon man with drunk driving and reckless endangerment after he allegedly drove the wrong way on the Southern State Parkway.
On February 2 at approximately 4:44 a.m., state troopers responded to the eastbound Southern State Parkway in the area of exit 32, in the Town of Oyster Bay, for reports of a wrong-way driver. When troopers arrived, they observed a red 2016 Nissan driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of traffic. The red Nissan struck a Gray 2020 Toyota in the center lane near exit 20S (Baldwin Rd). Both vehicles contained a driver and one passenger. The occupants in the gray Toyota were extricated from their vehicle and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The wrong-way driver was identified as Giovannie Merisier, 43. Merisier was charged with DWI and second-degree reckless endangerment.
This crash is under investigation and the NYSP is asking for witnesses or anyone with information to call (631) 756-3300.
