Vehicle Impounded after Unlawfully Fleeing Car Meet-up

Suffolk County Police impounded a vehicle for unlawful fleeing from a car meet that occurred in Melville.  

On October 16, a Second Precinct Community Support Unit officer was on routine patrol when he observed a car meet-up taking place in a parking lot located at 68 South Service Road, at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Upon entering the lot to conduct a further investigation, the officer observed a gray Honda Civic leaving the area. When the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle, the driver turned off the vehicle’s lights and fled the scene at a high rate of speed. The officer was able to successfully stop the vehicle and arrest the driver.  

The driver, Michael Walter, 23, of 538 17th Street, West Babylon, was charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree and Reckless Driving. He was also issued eight Uniform  Traffic Tickets, and his vehicle was seized. A search of the defendant’s vehicle revealed a mechanical device designed to block and unblock the rear license plate.  

Walter was issued a Field Appearance Ticket and is scheduled to appear in First District Court in  Central Islip on November 5.
