A Uniondale man was arrested for assaulting another driver during a road rage incident.
On April 4 at 3:22 p.m., two motorists became engaged in a road rage incident at the intersection of Greengrove Avenue and Front Street. Matthew Otto, 72, of 490 Cedar Street had a verbal argument with a 69-year-old man. The argument escalated and the victim and the defendant both exited their vehicles. Otto then retrieved a wooden baton from his trunk and began swinging it at the victim, placing him in fear for his life.
Otto then began smashing the windows on the victim’s 2018 Toyota Camry before striking the victim in his arm.
When police arrived, they placed Otto into custody without further incident. Both the victim and the defendant were transported to local area hospitals for evaluation and treatment.
Police charged Otto with fourth-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree assault. He will be arraigned once his medical condition improves.
