Two Dead in Single-Car Crash on Southern State Parkway

New York State Police are looking into a crash that claimed the lives of two people.

On October 14 at around 8:50 p.m., state troopers responded to a one-car motor vehicle collision into the trees on the eastbound Southern State Parkway west of Exit 29 in North Massapequa. Upon arrival, they observed a 2003 Nissan 350Z engulfed in flames with a deceased male lying outside of the vehicle, later identified as the operator Brayan Antonio Benitez-Benitez, 21, of Mineola. Inside the vehicle was an unidentified passenger who had suffered fatal injuries. An investigation revealed excessive speed was a contributing factor.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.
