A Bronx man has been arrested for fleeing from law enforcement after being pulled over.
On September 25, shortly before 9:30 a.m., New York State Police observed a tan Toyota Sienna with an improper license plate eastbound on the Southern State Parkway in the vicinity of Exit 28 in Wantagh.
The driver of the car, Hillary Okeke initially pulled over, but subsequently refused to cooperate and fled the scene. The Trooper pursued Okeke, who continued northbound onto the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway, where the suspect’s car sideswiped another vehicle before coming to a stop. Okeke resisted arrest, but state troopers and Nassau County police were able to take him into custody successfully.
During the struggle, one trooper sustained a minor injury and was treated at a local hospital. Okeke was also transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.
Okeke, 46, was charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, obstruction of governmental administration, resisting arrest, unlawfully fleeing a police officer and criminal mischief.
“The New York State Troopers are committed to keeping our roads and communities safe despite dangerous conditions such as this situation,” the NYS Police said in a statement. “Fortunately, no one was injured in the car accident and a dangerous individual was caught.”
