A tow truck driver was killed in a motor vehicle crash in Bay Shore.

On April 15 at approximately 1:40 p.m., Richard Rodriguez, 32, was trying to load a disabled 2007 Chevrolet Suburban onto the back of a 2020 Dodge Ram tow truck while standing on the shoulder of westbound Sunrise Highway, west of Brentwood Road, when a passing 2023 Kia Forte hit him.

As a result of the collision, the driver of the Kia, Anthony Licalzi, 38, lost control of the car and crossed several lanes of traffic before hitting the center median.

Rodriguez, of Freeport, was pronounced dead at the scene. Licalzi, of Massapequa, was not injured.

All three vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Suffolk County officers are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8252.
