Scooter Operator Seriously Hurt in Hauppauge Crash

Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that seriously injured a woman on a scooter in Hauppauge.

On September 7, Mariana Oropeza Seijas was operating a scooter northbound on Washington Avenue when she  attempted to make a lefthand turn onto Motor Parkway and collided with a 2010 Chevrolet being driven  eastbound on Motor Parkway by German Castro Penuelas at 3:42 p.m. The Chevrolet then collided with a 2009 Jeep that was stopped in the left-hand turning lane facing Motor Parkway, pushing that vehicle backwards into a 2003 Mazda that was stopped in the same lane.

Seijas, 23, of Brentwood, who was ejected from the scooter, was transported via ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of serious physical injuries.

Penuelas, 25, of Brentwood, and a 17-year-old passenger in the Chevrolet, as well as both adult occupants of the Mazda, were all transported to area hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening  injuries.

All the vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Anyone with information on this crash is asked to contact Fourth Squad detectives at 631-854-8452.
