Used Device to Conceal License Plate from Police
A Roosevelt man was arrested for several traffic and law violations in Massapequa.
On April 14, at approximately 10:35 p.m., Nassau County Criminal Intelligence Rapid Response Team (CIRRT) Officers were on patrol when they saw a 2011 Ford Mustang allegedly driving west on Sunrise Highway near the intersection of Old Sunrise Highway, failing to signal while cutting across three lanes of traffic.
The officers turned on their emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to perform a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop. The Mustang allegedly entered the parking lot of 5500 Sunrise Highway, where the operator, Keven Pineda, 18, allegedly turned on a device on the car’s rear license plate that covered it, attempting to hide the plate number before exiting the parking lot and fleeing east on Merrick Road.
Officers had already gotten the plate number before it was fully hidden and went to the car’s registered address, where the Mustang was located nearby, and Pineda, of 7 West Roosevelt Avenue, was quickly arrested without incident.
Pineda is charged with the following:
- Tampering with Public Record in the First Degree
- Tampering with Physical Evidence
- Reckless Driving
- Multiple Vehicle Traffic Law Infractions
Pineda is scheduled to be in First District Court on April 15.
