A Roosevelt man has been arrested for drug possession after he failed to obey a police officer’s orders to stop his car. It was also found out that he had an outstanding Warrant of Removal pending with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

On May 29 at 8:50 p.m., a 2019 White Honda Pilot was observed failing to use a turn signal near the intersection of Underhill Avenue and Stevens Street in Roosevelt. Detectives activated their emergency lights and attempted to initiate a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop. The vehicle continued driving and detectives observed the passenger allegedly throwing a dark item from the vehicle on Saint Francis Street, in the vicinity of Monroe Avenue.

The vehicle stopped on Monroe Avenue and after an investigation, Hugo Leon, 48, of 54 Carroll Street, was taken into custody without further incident. Detectives recovered a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine in a black Ziplock bag. Further investigation revealed that Leon had an outstanding Warrant of Removal pending with ICE.

Police charged Leon with Criminal Possession of a Substance in the Seventh Degree. He was issued an Appearance Ticket and was taken into custody by ICE.
