Queens Woman Arrested for Hit-and-Run Fatality in Plainview

A Queens woman was arrested for hitting a pedestrian who later died and fleeing the scene of the accident in Plainview.

According to Nassau County Homicide Squad detectives, on January 1 at 5:55 p.m., a 38-year-old male was crossing Old Country Road from north to south in the vicinity of Floral Avenue when he was struck by a 2018 Jeep Wrangler traveling eastbound on Old Country Road. The vehicle did not stop and continued eastbound. The victim sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a Nassau County Police medic.

After a thorough investigation, it was determined that Veronica Marmol, 39, of 1812 125th Street in College Point, was operating the vehicle. She was later placed under arrest without incident.

Marmol is charged with leaving the scene of an incident resulting in death. She was sentenced to be arraigned on January 2 at First District Court in Hempstead.
