A person was seriously injured after being hit by a car. He later survived the ordeal, thanks to the quick thinking and actions of one of the police officers at the scene.

On March 10 at 12:50 p.m., Nassau County officers from the First Precinct responded to the intersection of Forest Avenue and Clyde Road to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a car. Upon arrival, the officer located a 20-year-old male, who had been struck by a 2017 Nissan Altima operated by a 20-year-old female. The victim was semi-conscious, but sustained a severe laceration on the top of his right arm and bleeding heavily.

The officer initiated life-saving measures, but, due to the location of the laceration a tourniquet, could be not used. Instead, a bleed-stop kit was applied and the wound was packed with gauze to successfully control the bleeding.

The victim was transported by a Baldwin Fire Department Ambulance to a nearby hospital where he is currently in stable condition. The operator of the Nissan Altima remained at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
