
A Roosevelt man was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated in violation of Leandra’s Law.
On September 27 at 9:43 p.m., Nassau County officers observed a 2004 Chevrolet on John Street in the vicinity of Whitehouse Avenue in Roosevelt failing to maintain lane and initiated a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop. When officers approached the vehicle, they observed the driver holding a five-month-old boy. An investigation at the scene found the driver, Luis Monge Saldivar, 25, of 36 John Street, to be intoxicated.
When officers attempted to place Monge Saldivar into custody, he did resist, but was arrested shortly after without any further incident. The child was released to a family member.
Police charged Monge Saldivar with Aggravated DWI – Child Passenger less than 16, DWI (Leandra’s Law), Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Resisting Arrest and multiple VTL violations. He was scheduled to be arraigned on September 28 at First District Court in Hempstead.
