A Queens man was arrested in Valley Stream after he allegedly fled from police in a stolen car and was in possession of drugs.
On February 14 at 5:15 p.m., Nassau County officers responded to 2034 Green Acres Road to a report of an unconscious male in a blue 2023 Audi stopped in the middle of the roadway blocking traffic. Upon arrival, an officer approached the vehicle and attempted to render aid when Jeffrey Cabreja allegedly abruptly stepped on the gas pedal, causing his vehicle to accelerate and strike a black 2019 Jeep; the crash caused his vehicle to overturn.
Cabreja was then extricated from the vehicle by the responding officers and transported to a local area hospital. An officer suffered a shoulder injury and was also transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment.
After the investigation, it was determined that Cabreja had no authority to operate the car and was placed under arrest without incident.
Cabreja, 30, of 20-35 20th Street, was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired, second-degree assault, third-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law summonses. He will be arraigned when medically
practical.
