Off-Duty Officer Arrested for DWI after Allegedly Hitting Garbage Truck

A Suffolk County man and off-duty Nassau County police officer has been arrested for driving while intoxicated after he allegedly crashed into a garbage truck in Seaford.

The Public Information Office reports the arrest of a Suffolk County man for Driving While Intoxicated that occurred on Friday, December 12, 2025 at 4:44 a.m. in Seaford.

According to Nassau County police, Dominick Milazzo was operating a 2024 Ford Bronco northbound in the southbound lanes of New York State Route 135 on December 12 when, at 4:44 a.m., he allegedly struck a 2026 International Harvester Garbage Truck near exit 4. After a thorough investigation, Milazzo, 31, of Suffolk County, was placed under arrest without incident for Driving While Intoxicated.

Milazzo, an off-duty Nassau County police officer, was driving his personal vehicle. He was transported by a Nassau County Police Department Ambulance to a local hospital for minor injuries. Three occupants of the garbage truck, ages 56, 31 and 19, were transported by Nassau County Police Department Ambulances to local hospitals for treatment of minor injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

Milazzo is charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
