A North New Hyde Park man was arrested for allegedly hitting and killing an e-bike rider then leaving the scene.
According to Nassau County Homicide Squad detectives, on July 12 at 8:12 p.m., a 2015 Lexus traveling southbound on Lakeville Road struck an E-Bike operated by a 15-year-old male that was traveling eastbound on Bryant Avenue. The E-Bike operator sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The operator of the Lexus, defendant Ruyan Ali, 28 of 1204 New Hyde Park Road, was arrested near the scene without further incident.
Police charged Ali with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Fatality, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Second Degree, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Third Degree and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. He is scheduled to be arraigned on July 13 at First District Court in Hempstead.
