A North New Hyde Park man has been arrested for allegedly hitting a pedestrian and killing her while driving under the influence of alcohol.
On June 6 at 10:30 p.m., a 61-year-old female pedestrian was attempting to cross Lakeville Road in Lake Success when she was struck by a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado traveling southbound in the vicinity of 430 Lakeville Road. The pedestrian was transported by an ambulance to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead by a hospital physician. A thorough investigation determined that the driver, Rajvir Singh Bharaj, 32, of 55 Pilgrim Street, was allegedly intoxicated. He was arrested near the scene of the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
Polic charged Bharaj with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of an incident and driving while intoxicated. He was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead.
