Man Arrested for Killing Pedestrian in Hit-and-Run Crash

Suffolk County Police have apprehended a Brentwood man following his involvement in a hit-and-run accident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian. The suspect, Luis Vasquez, was driving a 2020 Toyota Highlander on Wicks Road, near Bradley Road when he struck a woman crossing the street from east to west on April 15 at around 5:10 a.m. After the collision, Vasquez fled the scene.

The victim, who has yet to be identified, was hit by at least one other vehicle after the initial impact. She was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where she was later pronounced dead.

Detectives from the Major Case Unit arrested 59-year-old Vasquez at 35 St. Andrew’s Drive later that day at 11:45 a.m. He has been charged with Leaving the Scene of a Crash Resulting in Death and was currently held overnight at the Third Precinct. Vasquez was scheduled for arraignment at the First District Court in Central Islip on April 16.
