Man Arrested for DWI after Killing Pedestrian

A man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after he was allegedly involved in a car crash that killed a pedestrian in Copiague.

On March 5, at approximately 11:21 p.m., Mario Matute, 59, was walking on Great Neck Road when he was hit by a Hyundai Tucson heading south. Matute, of Copiague, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Rand Strollo, 62, of Amityville, is charged with driving while intoxicated and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree. 

The Hyundai was seized for a safety check. Suffolk County officers are asking anyone with information about the crash to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6553.
