Man Arrested after Crashing Stolen Vehicle

Suffolk County Police arrested a Farmingville man for allegedly driving a stolen car while intoxicated  following a motor vehicle crash.  

On December 17, Suffolk County Hwighway Patrol Unit officers observed several vehicles traveling eastbound on the Long Island  Expressway, near exit 60 in Ronkonkoma, traveling at more than 90 miles per hour at approximately  2:15 a.m. The officer activated lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop whwen the driver of one of the  vehicles, a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, lost control of the car and left the roadway, striking the  guardrail and sound barrier along the expressway. The driver of the vehicle, Nicholas Mulligan, fled the scene on foot and was apprehended running along the road at 2:16 a.m.  

Following an investigation by Fourth Squad detectives, it was determined the Corvette had been was reported stolen from a New Jersey car dealership hours earlier.  

Mulligan, 20, of 31 Wendy Drive, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. He was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree, Driving While Impaired by Drugs in The Third Degree, Reckless Driving, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Resisting                                         ddd      Arrest. He was released from the hospital and transported to the Sixth Precinct where he was held overnight for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on December 18.
