A Hicksville man has been arrested for vehicular manslaughter after striking and killing a bicyclist in Westbury.

On October 27 at 3:53 a.m., a 2006 grey Chrysler Sebring was traveling eastbound on Old Country Road when it struck a bicyclist near the intersection of State Street. The driver of the vehicle, defendant Wilfredo Blanco Molina, 41, of 75 Meadow Lane, fled the scene and continued to drive eastbound on Old Country Road. The adult male bicyclist sustained extensive injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a Nassau County Police paramedic.

NCPD officers located Blanco Molina a short time later near the intersection of Old Country Road and the Wantagh State parkway. He failed a Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) and was placed under arrest without incident. Further investigation revealed that Blanco Molina was in possession of a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine.

Blanco Molina was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of an incident, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and driving while intoxicated. He was scheduled to be arraigned on October 28 at First District Court in Hempstead.
