Suffolk County police arrested a Huntington Station man for allegedly hitting and killing a pedestrian before driving off.
On March 8, a 44-year-old man was walking west to east across New York Avenue, just south of West 19th Street, when he was struck by a grey Toyota SUV traveling northbound on New York Avenue driven by Manuel Flores at approximately 5:40 p.m.
The victim, Bacilio Mardoqueo Vasquez Vasquez, 44, of Huntington Station, was transported via ambulance to Huntington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Flores allegedly did not stop and continued northbound. The SUV is believed to have front-end damage on the driver’s side.
Major Case Unit detectives charged Flores, 28, with Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash. He is being held at the Second Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 9.
