An on-duty Suffolk County Police Department crossing guard was injured after she was struck by a vehicle while assisting a pedestrian in Medford this morning.
A crossing guard was struck by a 2019 Ford SUV at the intersection of Beechnut Avenue and Wave Avenue on December 10 at 9:11 a.m. The crossing guard had entered the crosswalk and displayed her stop sign when a driver failed to stop. The adult pedestrian had not yet entered the crosswalk and was not injured.
The crossing guard was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford, Paulette Nicosia, 67, of Blue Point, was issued a summons for Failure to Yield.
