Suffolk County officers arrested a woman for driving while intoxicated with her 12-year-old child in the car following a motor vehicle crash in Smithtown.
On March 25 at approximately 8:23 p.m., Kristen Vassallo, 48, was driving a 2021 Volkswagen Atlas south on New York Avenue when the Volkswagen hit a vehicle parked in front of 67 New York Avenue. The force of the crash pushed the parked car into another vehicle, causing damage.
Fourth Precinct officers arrived at the scene and determined Vassallo showed signs of intoxication.
Vassallo, of 8 Darling Avenue, Smithtown, was charged with the following:
- Driving While Intoxicated
- Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law)
- Endangering the Welfare of a Child
No one was harmed, and the child was released to a guardian.
Vassallo was held overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court on March 26.
