Suffolk County Police have arrested a man for driving while ability impaired by drugs following a crash that seriously injured a bicyclist in Central Islip.
On October 13, Eryk McPherson was riding a bicycle westbound across Joshuas Path at Vanderbilt Avenue when he was struck by a 2012 Honda sedan traveling southbound on Joshuas Path at approximately 7:30 p.m.
McPherson, 19, of Brentwood, was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore. On October 14, he died as a result of his injuries.
The driver of the Honda, David Alfaro, 21, of Central Islip, was arrested and charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. He was held overnight at the Third Precinct and scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on October 14.
