AG Looks into Fatal Accident Involving Quogue Police Officer

The New York Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation (OSI) recently opened an investigation into the death of ­­­a woman who was hit by a car driven by a member of the Quogue Village Police Department.

On January 8 at approximately 10:52 a.m., Margaret Lucey was struck by a vehicle driven by an off-duty Quogue police officer Jon Stanton, who was making a left-hand turn onto Ponquogue Avenue. Lucey was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The vehicle involved was not property of the Quogue Village Police Department.

Long Island Life & Politics reached out to the attorney general’s office and the Quogue Village Police Department for more information on the investigation. 

According to the OSI, every police-involved incident that results in the death of a civilian. “If OSI’s assessment indicates an officer may have caused the death, OSI proceeds to conduct a full investigation of the incident,” the agency stated.

Long Island Life & Politics called the Quogue Village Police Department and was referred to the Southampton Police Department. Calls to the Southampton Police Department were not returned as of press time.
