A worn-down house in Medford that had been vacant for many years has finally been dismantled.
Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico was on board with the destruction of the house located at 56 Barbara Lane, which took place on May 15. The town went through with the demolition and the house was broken down in accordance with Chapter 73 of the Town Code which provides a “fast track” to rid neighborhoods of unsafe structures. The cost of demolition, debris removal and restoration of the land to nature is the responsibility of the property owner.
The unappealing structure was a burden to the community. It housed squatters, rodents, and illegal drug activity.
