Brentwood Man Arrested for Fleeing Hit-and-Run Crash

A man was arrested for fleeing the scene of a crash that killed a motorcyclist in Brentwood.

Eloy Khammach La Cruz Andres was riding a motorcycle northbound on Wicks Road when a 2008 Ford Explorer driven by Manuel Gomez was going southbound and then made a left turn in front of the motorcycle at approximately 7:22 p.m. The motorcyclist was ejected from the vehicle, which caught fire as a result of the collision.

Khammach La Cruz Andres, 31, of Brentwood, was taken via ambulance to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead. Gomez and two other men exited the Ford Explorer and fled the scene on foot.

Gomez, 46, of 39 Hamilton Ave., Brentwood, was charged with leaving the scene of an incident involving a fatality. He was held overnight at the Third Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on August 3.

Two Hispanic males, who also fled the scene with Gomez, are still being sought. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to contact Major Case Unit detectives at 631-852-6555 or anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
