Three young men were arrested for possessing illegal fireworks after a Nassau County police officer caught them shooting fireworks out of their car.
A Third Precinct officer was traveling northbound on the Meadowbrook State Parkway when he observed a vehicle shooting fireworks out of its sun roof. A Vehicle and Traffic Law stop was conducted in the vicinity of exit M2. After a thorough investigation, all three occupants of the vehicle — Frederick Taveras Hernandez, 19, of 22 Kendig Place, Hempstead; Justin Padilla, 18, of 85 Belmont Parkway, Hempstead; and Fernando Aristides, 19, of 1004 Alexander Avenue, Uniondale — were placed into police custody without incident.
For the safety and security of all residents and visitors, Nassau County police will continue their zero-tolerance approach regarding the possession and illegal use of fireworks.
All three defendants are charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and unlawfully possessing fireworks. Hernandez was also issued numerous traffic summons.
They were issued appearance tickets and scheduled to appear at First District Court in Hempstead on July 30.
