A Smithtown man was arrested for possession of weapons and fireworks.
Fourth Precinct Crime Section officers conducted a search warrant at 22 Pia Boulevard on July 4, at approximately 2:40 p.m. Investigation revealed the homeowner, Christopher Giancola, had several weapons and illegal fireworks in his home.
Police confiscated two assault rifles, two handguns, several high-capacity feeding devices and bullets. They also confiscated 15 boxes of fireworks, containing approximately 100 mortars, and two firework cakes.
Giancola, 52, was charged with five counts of criminal possession of a weapon, five counts of second-degree criminal contempt, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, and one count of possession of fireworks.
He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on July 6.
