Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino signed an executive order on July 3 to lower the speed limit in Oyster Bay Harbor to five miles per hour from 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 4 to a.m. Friday, July 5. He also announced intensified patrols on all waterways during the holiday. Officials also provided safety guidelines for boaters and personal watercraft operators and demonstrated the use of boater safety equipment.
“Whether traveling in beautiful Oyster Bay Harbor or in the Great South Bay, all residents out on our waters are urged to take extra caution on Independence Day,”Saladino said. “My Town Board colleagues and I have ordered the Town’s Bay Constables to intensify patrols throughout the weekend to help prevent senseless accidents. In addition to observing speed limits, all levels of law enforcement will be out to make sure those who are enjoying our waterways are doing so responsibly.”
