Suffolk County Police arrested a second driver involved in a hit-and-run crash that killed an unidentified pedestrian in Brentwood on April 15.
Jairo Carrillo-Perez was driving a 2004 Honda southbound on Wicks Road in Brentwood when he struck a female pedestrian who was laying in the road after she had already been struck by a 2020 Toyota Highlander being driven by Luis Vasquez. Following an investigation by Major Case Unit detectives, it was determined these are the only two vehicles that struck the pedestrian.
Detectives arrested Carrillo-Perez, 28, of 29 Swallow Lane, Brentwood, on April 16 and charged him with leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death. He was held overnight at the Third Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on April 17.
The first driver, Luis Vasquez, 59, of 35 St. Andrew’s Drive in Brentwood, was arrested by Major Case Unit detectives on April 15 at 11:45 a.m. and charged him with leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death. Vasquez was driving a 2020 Toyota Highlander southbound on Wicks Road, near Bradley Road, when he struck a woman who was crossing from east to west at approximately 5:10 a.m. He then fled
the scene in the vehicle.
Vasquez was held overnight at the Third Precinct and was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on April 16.
The woman, who has not yet been identified, was struck by at least one other vehicle before she was transported via ambulance to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where she was pronounced dead.
