Brookhaven Town Councilman Neil Foley served as the master of ceremonies for the grand opening dedication of Billy’s Park in Blue Point, which took place on March 30. The two-acre park is located at Park Street and Bowne Avenue on the long-vacant former site of the Blue Point Laundry.

A large crowd of family members, friends and neighbors from the community were in attendance. “Billy’s Park” is dedicated to Billy Schettino, who passed away in 2012 after being struck on the Long Island Expressway by a Suffolk County Sheriff’s cruiser while tending to his disabled vehicle. Billy was only 18 years of age. His dream was always to have a skate park on the site and, last week, his dream came to fruition.

In addition to the skate area, the park includes a basketball court, playground, walking path and visitors’ parking lot.
