Second Crash on Main Road in One Week
Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad Detectives are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed a man in Smithtown.
A man was driving a 2006 Honda Civic westbound on East Main Street on March 10 at approximately 3:45 a.m., when he lost control of the vehicle, which overturned and caught fire, in front of 280 East Main St. at approximately 3:45 a.m. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. An autopsy will be performed to confirm the driver’s identity.
According to Suffolk County police, the crash occurred in front of 280 East Main Street in Smithtown. Based on research by Long Island Life & Politics, the address belongs to St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. The Honda was impounded for a safety check.
This is the second time in a week that a crash has occurred on the Route 25 corridor in Smithtown. On March 2, two cars collided on East Main Street and Franklin Avenue. Both drivers were injured.
