Hochul Slams Long Island Again — This Time, with the Commuter Tax

Governor Kathy Hochul must have a death wish when it comes to her popularity ratings amongst Long Islanders.  Though she won statewide, she got shellacked by Long Island’s own Lee Zeldin in 2022. Since then, she hasn’t endeared  herself any further with Long Islanders.

She pushed a program that would have the state override local zoning laws and then pushed for Long Island businesses to pay increased taxes to fill the budget holes for the city’s transit system via the MTA payroll tax.

You’d think that, with Republicans on Long Island sweeping congressional, state and local elections over the last two years, she would’ve learned something. But now she’s at it again. Now she’s slamming us for $15 a ride every time we want to take our car into Manhattan below 68th St. during daytime hours.

First, Hochul‘s bail reform laws and other crazy policies she supported in the Cuomo administration led to violent crime skyrocketing in the city. Then, she sat silently as New York remained a sanctuary city for illegal aliens who have overwhelmed our services. She’s also done nothing to deal with the homeless crisis.

Commuters don’t want to use public transportation because it’s so dirty and dangerous. Instead of incentivizing people to use public transit by improving service and eliminating the criminals from the system, she is instead banging Long Islanders with a huge tax every time they drive into the city.

It seems more and more that she just doesn’t care about the island’s needs.
