While interviewing Congressman Matt Gaetz of Florida, Meet the Press moderator Kristen Welker badgered him about being a hypocrite for supporting lower deficits, while having voted for the Trump tax cuts.
The moderator was falsely claiming that the Trump tax cuts of 2017 were responsible for deficits. This is simply not true.
It is a false, leftist talking point that has been regurgitated by the media for many years. The truth is that the tax cuts actually led to more, not less, revenue flowing into the government coffers.
Yes, it’s true that there were deficits in the Trump years that continued into Biden’s, and that was true even before the pandemic, but it was not the result of the tax cuts. Rather, the deficits were the result of uncontrolled spending by Congress, and that includes the Republicans.
As stated in my book Solutions to America’s Problems, the tax cuts of Democrat John Kennedy, and Republicans Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump were followed by larger amounts of revenue collected by the government because the tax cuts spurred more investment, created more jobs and higher incomes that could be taxed by the government to bring in more revenue. https://www.discoursemagazine.com/p/in-actual-dollars-tax-cuts-boost-revenue-time-after-time
The same was true after Democrat Bill Clinton worked with a Republican House to cut the capital gains tax.
America doesn’t have a revenue problem; it has a spending problem. We are not sure if this reporter just doesn’t do her homework or has a natural liberal bias. It’s probably a little bit of both.
