Huntington Station Teen Shoots Himself in Hand, Arrested on Weapons Charges

A Huntington Station teenager has been arrested after shooting himself in the hand with an illegal handgun.

On July 8, Suffolk County Police were notified by a staff member at Huntington Hospital that a 15-year-old boy was being treated in the emergency room for a gunshot wound to his left hand. After an investigation by Second Squad detectives,a .22 caliber ghost gun was recovered from the boy’s home on Foxwood Drive East. The boy was placed under arrest that evening at 6:23 p.m.

The boy has been charged with multiple crimes, which include second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree criminal possession of a firearm, second-degree criminal use of a firearm, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon by a person under 16, and second-degree reckless endangerment. He is scheduled to appear at Family Court in Central Islip at a later date.
