Bellport Burglar Sentenced to 10 Years

Arnaldo Marcano has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for committing a burglary while on parole

A Bellport man known as a serial burglar was sentenced to 10 years in prison over a burglary he committed in Bellport while out on parole.

On February 24, 2023 at 12:25 a.m., Arnaldo Marcano, 42, broke through a window of a Bellport residence and stole money from the home before fleeing on foot. Edward Spillett and Matthew Spiltotros of the Suffolk County Police Department later arrested Marcano after they recognized his description while walking down the street.

Marcano was out on parole following a previous prison sentence for multiple convictions from 2004, which include first-degree burglary and six counts of second-degree burglary. He also has a prior conviction from 2000 of third-degree attempted burglary. On May 23, 2023, he pleaded guilty to second degree burglary before Supreme Court Justice John B. Collins. On June 7, 2023, Marcano was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

“Recidivist offenders such as this defendant pose a serious risk to the safety of our communities,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney. “Everyone deserves a second chance, but I will not allow the same individuals to continuously commit crimes in Suffolk County and just get a slap on the wrist. We will be holding you accountable, and seek substantial prison sentences.”
