One Pedestrian Dead, One Injured after Being Hit by Two Vehicles

Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash involving a Suffolk County Transit bus that killed one pedestrian and injured another in Amityville. 

On February 20, Pablo Serrano and Claralee Correa were traveling from the northwest corner to the northeast corner of the intersection of Broadway and Oak Street on foot in a posted crosswalk, when they were struck by an eastbound 2003 Mercury Mountaineer that was turning left onto Broadway from Oak Street at approximately 8:10 p.m. The two pedestrians were then struck by an eastbound 2010 Orion Bus, which was also turning left onto Broadway behind the Mercury.  

Pablo Serrano, 61, of Woodside, Queens, was pronounced dead at the scene. Claralee Correa, 45, of  Brooklyn, was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.  

Neither the driver of the Mercury, Juanita Scott, 76, of Massapequa, nor the driver of the bus, Ricardo  Jimenez, 58, of Port Washington, were injured.  

The Mercury was impounded for a safety check. The bus was examined by the Motor Carrier Unit and  released to the Transit Authority.
