County Modernizes Park Reservation System

Updated for First Time Since 2017

Out with the old, in with the new!

Suffolk County has made an update to the Parks and Recreation Department’s point-of-sale system that houses online camping reservations, golf tee times, online permits, and the in-person point-of-sale system.

“Suffolk County has some of the most beautiful parks in New York State, and we need to ensure that every person can take full advantage of what Suffolk has to offer. Our new reservation system will streamline the process for all park purchases,” said Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine. “This means fewer headaches, faster approvals and more fun in our over 60-thousand acres of county parkland.”

Under the new system, Green Key card memberships will be available in a fully digital format accessible from mobile devices. Users will be able to log in and make reservations and purchases from their mobile phones, as well as other internet-connected devices. The new system will allow users to make camping reservations and purchase recreation permits, such as outer beach permits and night fishing permits. Future updates will include picnic area and youth campground reservations.

The new system will be made available to county residents in stages. Currently, users can subscribe to updates using the new website https://www.reserveparks.suffolkcountyny.gov/. System announcements will be shared with residents who sign up for emails, as well as on the Parks website and through the Parks social media pages.

The system debut will begin at the Parks’ two store locations: the Saint James General Store in St. James and The Big Duck in Flanders. Once the system goes fully live, family camping reservations will be released gradually by date to ensure a smooth transition into the new system.

Group camping reservations will continue in a similar way to last year. Starting January 26, interested groups will need to submit an online application. The application form and instructions can be found on the Parks website. The group camping lottery will be paused this year due to timing, and group reservations will be made on a first-come, first-served basis according to when the online application is received.

The last time the system was updated was in early 2017. This long-awaited change will bring a modern solution to in-person and online transactions with Suffolk County Parks.
