It is remarkable how the American population has evolved into two distinct camps that see the country from entirely different perspectives. These differing worldviews were exemplified by the varying coverage of the ICE shooting in Minnesota by liberal and conservative media outlets.
In its efforts to bond with the radical left illegal immigrant advocates, the liberal media has been describing Renée Good, the individual fatally shot by the ICE officer, as being an innocent mom who was merely trying to pick up her child from school when a mean ICE officer shot and killed her as she was driving away.
What media outlets such as The New York Times, Newsday and PBS failed to include is that Good was a known radical disruptor who was associated with a group called “ICE Watch,” a coalition of activists dedicated to disrupting ICE operations.
A New York Times article portrayed her as an angel, while another article published by PBS said the following:
In social media accounts, Good described herself as a “poet and writer and wife and mom.” She said she was currently “experiencing Minneapolis,” displaying a pride flag emoji on her Instagram account. A profile picture posted to Pinterest shows her smiling and holding a young child against her cheek, along with posts about tattoos, hairstyles and home.
A quote was given from another friend who claims: “Renée was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known. She was extremely compassionate…”
Yet, a witness reported that Good was purposely trying to block agents from freely moving in the streets, thereby obstructing their law enforcement efforts.
This was a crime, but here’s how Newsday described her activities that day:
Good was driving home after dropping her six-year-old son off at school when she encountered federal agents on a residential street, according to her ex-husband. She was a U.S. citizen with no past charges beyond the traffic ticket.
But there’s much that these more liberal outlets did NOT include in their stories. The more conservative news outlet Newsmax gave a more complete picture, noting the following :
The woman who was fatally shot by an Immigration Custom Enforcement agent on Wednesday after she allegedly tried to strike him with her vehicle was described as an anti-ICE “warrior“ and part of a group of activists who work to “document and resist” the federal immigration crack down in Minnesota.
She was involved with a movement within her son‘s charter school, which puts “social justice first“ and involves children” in political and social activism.” Her friend, who also has children in the school claimed: “She was a warrior. She died doing what was right.”
The ICE Watch coalition is composed of activists who use phone apps, whistles, and car horns to warn neighbors when ICE shows up, and often engage in confrontation, sometimes ramming agents with their cars. In fact, the officer who was struck by Good’s car had previously been dragged 100 yards by an illegal alien whom agents were seeking to arrest.
The left-leaning paper also claimed, “an analysis by The New York Times shows the car was driving away from, not toward, the officer who pulled his gun.”
This is blatantly false. The officer was in front of the vehicle, and the shots were fired into the front windshield, not from the side or behind her.
The video clearly shows her moving forward when the agent was standing in front of her, and in fact, the agent was unquestionably struck by the car, as evidenced further by the officer’s body cam.
How can the benefit of the doubt not be given to the officer who must make a split-second decision as to whether he will live or die by someone who has a history of being an activist trying to disrupt ICE operations?
It’s bad enough that our law enforcement agents have to deal with left-wing radicals who seek to do them harm. It’s equally appalling that the liberal media is piling on against the law enforcement officials who are simply trying to carry out the law.
Meanwhile, Newsday‘s editorial claims that this shooting was avoidable and seems to cast blame on the ICE agents. They had one thing right: it was avoidable. It would’ve been avoidable had Good not taken it upon herself to take her vehicle and deliberately seek to impede a law enforcement operation.
It would’ve been avoidable had she complied with orders from the police officer to get out of her car, which was deliberately blocking traffic and their freedom of movement.
The willingness of the liberal media to play along with the leftist activists who are breaking the law by accosting officers must come to an end.
